You have three Ghost tubs open in three tabs, identical apart from the label colour. One is $90.85, one is $77.85, one is $94.85, and the cheapest per serve is not the one you would guess.

The short answer

  • Ghost Whey is the default pick. 25 g protein, 26 serves in a 1014 g tub, $90.85, or $3.49 a serve. The flavours are why people buy it.
  • Ghost Vegan is cheapest per serve at $2.78, but you get 21 g protein, not 25 g. Adjust for that and it costs about $3.31 per 25 g of protein, closer to the whey than it looks.
  • Ghost Clear Whey Isolate is the juice-style one. 25 g protein, 100 calories, no sugar, $4.74 a serve, which is 36 percent more than Ghost Whey for the same protein.
  • Pick on texture and calories. Protein per serve ranges 21 g to 25 g, a smaller gap than the prices suggest.

Ghost Whey: the one most people should buy

Every Ghost Whey tub is 1014 g and $90.85, with 25 g protein, 6 g carbs, 3 g sugars and 2.5 g fat in a 39 g scoop. Calories run 120 to 150, Choc Chip Cookie at the top and Coffee Ice Cream at the bottom.

The quiet detail is serving count. Four flavours give 26 serves, but Coffee Ice Cream is listed at 28 for the same money, so it lands at $3.24 a serve.

In stock now: Cereal Milk, Peanut Butter Cereal Milk, Milk Chocolate, Choc Chip Cookie and Coffee Ice Cream.

Skip this if you buy on price alone. At $3.49 a serve it sits above the cheaper bulk tubs in our whey protein range. The premium buys flavour work, fair value if it means you drink the stuff.

Ghost Vegan Protein: cheapest per serve, lower protein

Ghost Vegan runs 21 g protein, 6 g carbs, 1.5 g fat, 1 g fibre and no sugars per serve, at 110 to 120 calories. All four flavours give 28 serves and all four are dairy free, soy free and gluten free.

Banana Pancake and Pancake Batter are 896 g tubs at $77.85, or $2.78 a serve. Choc Cereal Milk and Peanut Butter Cereal Milk are 989 g at $84.85, or $3.03.

Skip this if you are not avoiding dairy. Most of the saving disappears once you match protein for protein, and plant blends drink grittier. If dairy is a real problem, our plant protein comparison covers the range.

Ghost Clear Whey Isolate: the one you drink like cordial

Clear whey is isolate treated so it mixes clear and thin instead of creamy. You get 25 g protein, 1 g carbs, no fat, no sugar and 100 calories in a 32 g scoop, with 20 serves per tub. We covered how clear whey is made separately.

Blue Raspberry is in stock at $94.85, or $4.74 a serve. Orange Cream and Strawberry Watermelon are out of stock at $98.95.

Skip this if you use protein as a meal or a snack. At 100 calories it fills nothing, and it costs $1.25 more per serve than Ghost Whey for identical protein. It earns its keep in hot weather.

Is 21 g of plant protein the same as 25 g of whey?

Not quite, and the reason is dose. Morton 2018 in the British Journal of Sports Medicine pooled 49 trials and found protein helps gains up to roughly 1.6 g per kg of bodyweight a day, with per meal doses near 0.4 g per kg doing the work. The ISSN position stand makes the same point about spreading intake out.

Source matters for amino acid content. Whey carries more leucine per gram than most plant blends, so a 21 g plant serve does slightly less per scoop. That is a heaped extra scoop or some yoghurt alongside, not a reason to write plant protein off. Ghost does not print leucine on either panel; whey runs about 10 to 11 percent leucine, so the 25 g Whey serve lands near 2.5 g and the 21 g Vegan serve a little under 2 g.

What a month actually costs

Say you are 80 kg aiming at 1.6 g per kg, so about 128 g of protein a day. One Ghost Whey serve is 25 g, roughly a fifth of that. Food does the rest.

At one serve a day, Ghost Whey lasts just under a month for $90.85. Ghost Vegan stretches a few days further for $77.85. Clear Whey runs out inside three weeks for $94.85, though shaking only on training days makes that tub last a month.

The common mistake is buying the dearest tub for every serve. A big tub of Ghost Whey plus one Clear Whey for summer is the sensible split. Our full whey rankings cover the category, and the brand's back story explains the licensed flavours.

Where NZ Supps fits

We hold Ghost stock here in New Zealand, so you are not waiting on an overseas parcel. Orders placed before 1pm on a business day go out the same day, and shipping is free over $99, which one tub clears on its own.

Match the line to the job. Daily protein with flavour as the drawcard is Ghost Whey, dairy free is Ghost Vegan, light and cold is Clear Whey. We are not going to tell you to buy all three. Shipping questions are answered in the Help Centre.

Is Ghost protein worth the price in NZ?

Ghost Whey at $3.49 a serve sits above the cheapest 25 g protein options we stock. You pay for flavour work, not better protein, which is worth it if flavour is why your last tub sat unopened.

What is the difference between Ghost Whey and Ghost Clear Whey?

Both give 25 g protein. Ghost Whey is a creamy shake with 3 g sugars and 120 to 150 calories at $3.49 a serve, while Clear Whey is thin and juice-like with no sugar and 100 calories at $4.74.

Which Ghost Whey flavour should I get first?

Cereal Milk is the one the brand is known for and it tastes like the milk left in the bowl. Coffee Ice Cream gives 28 serves instead of 26 for the same money.

Is Ghost Vegan Protein actually vegan?

Yes, a plant blend listed as dairy free, gluten free and soy free, with 21 g protein and no sugars per serve. All four flavours we carry are in stock.

How many serves are in a tub of Ghost protein?

Ghost Whey has 26 per 1014 g tub, or 28 for Coffee Ice Cream. Ghost Vegan has 28, and Clear Whey Isolate has 20.

Does Ghost do a protein you can drink hot?

Yes. Ghost Hot Cocoa Mix is $72.85 for 15 serves, with 20 g protein and 130 calories a cup. At $4.86 a serve it is a treat, not a staple.
