Vitawerx Protein Chocolate NZ - Vitawerx Protein Milk Choc bars, Classic Milk, laid out on a kitchen counter

You are standing in front of the pantry at 8pm and you want chocolate, not a shake. Vitawerx keeps showing up in that moment because it looks like a normal chocolate bar and claims a protein number on the front. Here is the honest read: it is real chocolate with protein added, it is a genuinely better swap than a supermarket block, and it will not replace a training-day protein serve.

The short answer

  • A 35 g Vitawerx bar has 9.2 g protein and 2.8 g sugars (Classic Milk), or 8.9 g protein and 2.7 g sugars in the white chocolate. That is roughly a quarter of a protein shake, at chocolate prices.
  • The 12-pack of 35 g bars is $53.90, which works out at $4.49 a bar. The 12-pack of 100 g blocks is $107.90, or $8.99 a block.
  • The cheapest way into the range is the Protein Nut Spread at $19.60 for 265 g, about $0.89 for a 12 g serve with 3.6 g protein.
  • Calories are not low. A 35 g bar is 184 kcal and a 60 g bag of chocolate coated almonds is 313 kcal, because chocolate is mostly fat.

What Vitawerx actually is

Vitawerx is an Australian brand that makes chocolate sweetened with stevia instead of cane sugar, then adds whey protein to lift the protein number. The fat and the cocoa butter are still there, so it melts, snaps and tastes like chocolate rather than like a chalky protein bar. That is the whole appeal.

It sits in a different category from the bars we rank in our protein bar guide. Those are built to carry 20 g or more of protein in one hit. Vitawerx is chocolate first, protein second. If you buy it expecting a meal replacement you will be annoyed, and fairly so.

The sugar difference is the part that matters. A 35 g Vitawerx milk bar has 2.8 g sugars. A standard 35 g supermarket milk chocolate bar sits far higher, and the protein content is close to nothing. So as a straight swap for the chocolate you were going to eat anyway, it wins on both counts.

Milk, white, or coconut rough?

The three flavour families barely differ on paper. Classic Milk and Milk Coconut Rough both give 9.2 g protein and 2.8 g sugars per 35 g bar, separated only by 4 calories. Classic White and White Coconut Rough both give 8.9 g protein and 2.7 g sugars.

So pick on taste. The milk versions taste closest to a normal bar. The white chocolate is sweeter and the stevia is more noticeable, which is why "vitawerx white chocolate nz" gets searched and then second-guessed. Coconut rough adds texture and hides the sweetener a little better.

The coated nuts are the best value line for anyone who wants a bigger protein number in one sitting. A 60 g bag of chocolate coated almonds or macadamias carries 16.1 g protein and 4.6 g sugars for $7.65, and it has a 4.85 rating from 93 reviews on our site. It is the only line in the range that gets close to a real protein snack.

The 100 g blocks are labelled as about three 35 g serves, so the per-serve figures above apply to each third of a block.

Protein density is roughly the same across the whole range once you account for portion size: 26 g per 100 g in the milk bars, 25 g per 100 g in the white, 27 g per 100 g in the coated almonds and macadamias, 30 g per 100 g in the spread and 32 g per 100 g in the bircher.

Does 9 g of protein in a chocolate bar do anything?

On its own, not much. The daily total is what moves the needle. Morton and colleagues, reviewing 49 trials in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2018, found protein intakes above about 1.6 g per kg of bodyweight per day gave no further gain in lean mass. For an 80 kg lifter that is roughly 128 g a day.

A 35 g Vitawerx bar contributes 9.2 g of that. It is a rounding error on a good day and a useful top up on a bad one. Where it earns its place is the swap: 9.2 g of protein and 2.8 g of sugars instead of almost no protein and a lot more sugar from the block you would otherwise buy.

Where it fits in a real week

The pattern that works: one bar in the afternoon instead of the biscuits, spread on toast at breakfast for an extra 3.6 g, and the coated almonds in the car for the drive home when you would otherwise stop for takeaways. That is about 30 g of extra protein across a day for around $9, and none of it feels like supplementing.

The pattern that does not work: eating a 100 g block over an evening. That is close to 26 g protein but also over 500 kcal, and the stevia does not stop it being chocolate. Buy the 35 g bars if portion control is the actual problem you are solving.

Skip Vitawerx if

Skip it if you want 20 g of protein from a single snack. The bars top out at 9.2 g and only the 60 g coated nut bags get past 15 g. A dedicated bar from the protein bar range will do that job for similar money.

Skip it if you are counting calories hard. Chocolate is 5 kcal a gram whether or not it has whey in it. Our piece on bars against shakes on value makes the point plainly: a scoop of powder is cheaper protein than anything you chew.

Skip it if stevia bothers you. Some people taste it immediately in the white chocolate. Buy one 60 g bag first rather than committing to a 12-pack.

Where NZ Supps fits

We are New Zealand based, we dispatch same day on orders placed before 1pm, and shipping is free over $99. A 12-pack of 35 g bars clears that on its own. If you want a snack you will actually enjoy, start with the chocolate coated almonds at $7.65. If you want the best protein per dollar, buy powder instead and use the chocolate as a treat. We would rather tell you that than sell you a case you regret.

Is Vitawerx actually high protein?

It is high protein for chocolate, at about 26 g per 100 g. A 35 g bar gives 9.2 g. Compared with a protein bar or a shake it is low, so treat it as a snack upgrade rather than a protein source.

How much sugar is in Vitawerx chocolate?

A 35 g milk bar has 2.8 g of sugars and the white version has 2.7 g. The sweetness comes mostly from stevia. The nut spread is lower again at 0.9 g per 12 g serve.

What does Vitawerx cost in NZ?

A 12-pack of 35 g bars is $53.90, which is $4.49 a bar. The 12-pack of 100 g blocks is $107.90, or $8.99 a block. Single 60 g bags of coated nuts are $7.65. Prices as at 2 September 2026.

Is the white chocolate as good as the milk?

It has slightly less protein at 8.9 g a bar and slightly fewer sugars at 2.7 g. The stevia is easier to taste in white chocolate, so try a small format before buying the 12-pack.

Can I use Vitawerx after training?

You can, but it is not the efficient choice. Nine grams of protein and 184 calories mostly from fat is a slow, small dose. A shake does the same job faster and cheaper.

Is the Vitawerx bircher muesli worth it?

At $39.25 for 15 serves it is $2.62 a serve with 9.7 g protein and 148 calories per 30 g. That is fine for a quick breakfast, though plain oats plus a scoop of whey is cheaper for more protein.
