Pillar Performance NZ: Triple Magnesium, Electrolyte Hydration and Collagen Repair

You have seen the black and gold tubs at a physio clinic or on a teammate's bench, and now you want to know which Pillar line is worth your money. Most people buy the magnesium and stop there. That is usually right. Here is the range with the numbers.

The short answer

  • Triple Magnesium capsules are the cheapest way in: $35.96 for 60 serves, or $0.60 a serve.
  • The powder costs more: $77.85 for 80 serves ($0.97) or $1.27 in the 200g.
  • Buy electrolyte sticks, not the tub: $50.85 for 30 serves ($1.70) against $53.96 for 15 ($3.60).
  • Collagen Repair 510g is $0.85 a serve, the 250g $1.16.
  • Every Pillar product we stock is Informed Sport certified. If nobody tests you, cheaper magnesium does the same job.

What Informed Sport certification covers

Informed Sport is a batch testing programme. A sample from a production batch is screened against a list of substances banned in sport, and a passing batch gets a certificate you can look up by the code on the tub. That is the whole promise.

It does not verify the label dose, prove an ingredient works, or make a product suitable for you. It covers the batch tested, not the brand, so the batch code carries the weight rather than the logo. Here is how to look up a batch number yourself.

So you pay a higher price per serve for a testing programme. Tested athletes get real value from that, and everyone else is buying reassurance.

The range, by price per serve

Prices as at 2 September 2026. Flavours in a line share a price and formula, so one row covers them.

Which one suits you, and when to skip it

Triple Magnesium is the repeat buy, and 576 reviews at 4.88 says so. Capsules at $0.60 a serve are the default. Skip the powder unless you dislike swallowing capsules, because you pay $0.97 to $1.27 for the same job. For dose context, read what magnesium does for athletes.

Electrolyte Hydration gives 400 mg sodium per 7 g serve, which suits normal training rather than four hours in the heat. Skip it if price per serve is your first filter: we compare cheaper single-serve sachets.

Collagen Repair Tendon & Ligament is a 5.1 g unflavoured scoop of TENDOFORTE bovine collagen peptides with 100 mg vitamin C, 4.5 g protein and 18.3 calories. That is what the label provides, and we will not tell you it repairs tendons. Buy the 510g.

Ultra Omega gives 1,500 mg of omega-3 for $1.57 a serve, a high dose next to most fish oils, across 114 reviews at 4.89. Skip it if you eat oily fish weekly.

Ultra Immune C, Vitamin C + Zinc and Iron Advanced + C are the everyday tier. Vitamin C + Zinc is the cheapest thing Pillar makes at $0.75 a serve. Iron Advanced + C is one tablet with 80 mg vitamin C and 23 mg elemental iron as Ferrochel bisglycinate. Iron is not one to take on a hunch, so buy it after a blood test.

The proteins are the hard sell. Whey isolate is $4.43 a serve for 26.4 g of protein, vegan isolate $3.79 for 20.5 g, both with 1 g of sugar. Outside a testing pool, our other isolates cost half as much.

What the research supports

Protein is the settled part. Morton's 2018 meta-analysis in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found gains flattening around 1.6 g of protein per kg of bodyweight daily. For an 80 kg athlete that is about 128 g, and one Pillar serve covers 26.4 g.

Kreider's 2017 ISSN review supports 3 to 5 g a day of monohydrate, and the Pillar version is a plain 5 g serve at $0.93. Untested monohydrate does that for a third.

Magnesium and collagen are less settled. Examine.com puts magnesium supplementation as most useful when dietary intake is low, and the connective tissue collagen research is early.

Where NZ Supps fits

We are NZ based and dispatch same day before 1pm, with free shipping over $99. The full tested for sport range sits beside our vitamins and greens, so you can compare tested against untested. If you are tested, start with Triple Magnesium capsules and add Ultra Omega if your diet is light on fish. If nobody tests you, buy it because you like it.

Is Pillar Performance worth the price in NZ?

It depends on whether you get drug tested. Batch testing costs money and you pay for it per serve. If nobody tests you, cheaper magnesium and protein do the same job.

Pillar Triple Magnesium capsules or powder?

Capsules, for most people. The 60 capsule tub is $35.96, or $0.60 a serve, against $0.97 for the 400g powder and $1.27 for the 200g.

What is in Pillar Collagen Repair?

The 5.1 g unflavoured serve gives 4.5 g of collagen protein and 100 mg of vitamin C at 18.3 calories. The 250g tub is $57.85 for 50 serves and the 510g $84.85 for 100, saving $0.31 a serve.

Are Pillar electrolytes strong enough for long efforts?

One 7 g serve gives 400 mg sodium, 190 mg potassium and 80 mg magnesium, which fits an hour or two in normal conditions. A long hot session wants more sodium per hour.

Is Pillar Performance stocked in New Zealand?

Yes, we hold the range here and ship domestically. Triple Magnesium 90 caps and Pillar Creatine Monohydrate are out of stock at 2 September 2026.

Does Informed Sport mean a supplement is safe?

No. It means a batch was screened against a banned substance list and passed. It says nothing about whether the ingredient works or the dose is right.
