Why price per bar is the wrong number

A protein bar is protein with a chocolate coating. What matters is what you pay for the protein, not the wrapper. Twenty grams is a fair yardstick, because most real bars land there and a scoop of whey gives about the same.

The sum is quick. Take the price of one bar, divide by the grams of protein, then multiply by twenty. A $4.49 bar with 9.2 g costs more per 20 g than a $5.94 bar with 21 g, even though it looks like the bargain.

When a shake is cheaper still
