What Carbotein is
Carbotein is GAT Sport's carbohydrate powder, built around a blend the brand calls FuelGen. Rather than a single carbohydrate source, it draws on maltodextrin, fructose, rice maltodextrin, potato maltodextrin, Fibersol and isomaltulose. Each 35 g scoop carries 30 g of carbohydrate at 120 calories, with only 3 g of that showing as sugars.
What else is in the scoop
Alongside the carbohydrate there is a BCAA blend of L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine, plus taurine. Electrolytes come from sodium citrate at 150 mg of sodium per serve and potassium chloride at 190 mg of potassium. Calcium is listed at 71.7 mg and magnesium at 1.2 mg.
How people use it
One scoop mixes into 180 ml to 240 ml of cold water. GAT's own guidance is half a serve every 30 minutes during a session, then half a serve to a full serve within 40 minutes of finishing. Sipping it through a long session tends to sit better than drinking the lot at once, so build up slowly if you have not trained with carbohydrate drinks before.
The tub
The grape tub holds 1.75 kg, which works out at 50 serves. It is a powder, unflavoured by stimulants, so there is no caffeine to time around. Note that it contains milk and soy.
Mix 1 scoop (35 g) with 180 ml to 240 ml of cold water in a shaker. Add another 90 ml to 120 ml of water for each extra serve. GAT suggests half a serve every 30 minutes through a session, and half a serve to a full serve within 40 minutes of finishing. Start with a smaller amount of powder in more water while you work out what sits comfortably during training.
Made for lifters and athletes who train long or train twice a day and want carbohydrate they can sip rather than chew. If your sessions run past the hour mark, or you finish training with no appetite for a full meal, a mixed-carb powder is an easier way to get fuel in. Also worth a look for endurance work where you are drinking to replace sweat anyway. Not the right pick if you are keeping carbohydrate intake low.
How many serves are in a tub?
50 serves. One scoop is 35 g, and the tub holds 1.75 kg of powder.
How much carbohydrate is in a serve?
30 g of carbohydrate, of which 3 g is sugars, at 120 calories per serve.
Why six different carbohydrates instead of one?
The FuelGen blend mixes maltodextrin, fructose, rice maltodextrin, potato maltodextrin, Fibersol and isomaltulose, so the carbohydrate sources digest at different rates rather than arriving all at once.
Does it contain stimulants?
No. There is no caffeine in the formula, so it can be used at any time of day.
Are there allergens?
Yes. It contains milk and soy, and it is made in a facility that also handles egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish oils, and wheat.
Can I take it with protein powder?
Yes, many people mix carbohydrate powder into a post-training shake. Mix them in the same shaker with plenty of water.
