Electrolyte Sachets - FAQs

For sodium, Pillar Performance Electrolyte Hydration. Each 7 g sachet lists 400 mg of sodium, 190 mg of potassium and 80 mg of magnesium, and it is in our tested for sport range. Ghost Hydration Sticks are lighter on sodium at 150 mg but add 375 mg of potassium, 83 mg of magnesium and 1,500 mg of taurine. Pillar suits long, salty sweat sessions; Ghost suits an everyday top-up. Read our best electrolyte sachets NZ comparison.

They are easier to carry. Ghost Hydration Sticks use the same formula as the Ghost Hydration tub, and Pillar's sachets match its 210 g tub, but a single-serve pack costs more per serve than a scoop. Sachets suit a gym bag, race belt, travel or the office. If you mostly mix at home, the tubs in our electrolytes range cost less per serve. Read electrolyte tablets vs powder.

Pillar Performance lists 400 mg of sodium a sachet and Ghost Hydration Sticks list 150 mg. For long or hot sessions, a common target is about 300 to 600 mg of sodium an hour, depending on how much you sweat, so one Pillar sachet an hour covers the lower end. Ghost suits shorter sessions or anyone who wants less salt. Stay within the serves a day on each label. Read how much sodium you need for hydration.

Tear it open, pour it into water and shake until it dissolves: Pillar suggests 500 to 750 ml a sachet and Ghost 355 to 415 ml a stick. If it tastes too salty, use more water rather than part of the sachet, so you still get all the sodium on the label. Sip it through a long or hot session or after training. For a normal gym session under an hour in mild weather, water is usually enough.

Yes, both brands list 0 g of sugar. Ghost Hydration Sticks list 1 to 2 g of carbohydrate a stick and Pillar 3.5 g, sweetened with erythritol (a sugar alcohol), stevia and monk fruit. That leaves very little fuel, so on a long race pair a sachet with a gel or food. Read sugar vs sugar-free electrolytes.

Orders placed before 1pm on a business day usually leave our Palmerston North warehouse the same day, and we email a tracking link when they do. Shipping is free on orders of $70 or more; under that, the courier rate appears at checkout. Rural addresses need one to two business days more.
