Raw Nutrition is the brand most people know through Chris Bumstead, and he co-formulated its Essential pre-workout line. You will also see CBUM-branded tubs sitting next to the Raw range, which can make the shelf feel busier than it is. Strip it back and Raw in NZ comes down to a family of pre-workouts, one EAA and one hormone-support capsule. This guide explains what each one does and who it actually suits.

The short answer

  • First Raw pre-workout: Essential Pre-Workout. Moderate 200mg caffeine, proper pump base, easy to live with.
  • Hate the tingle: Essential Tingle-Free. Same idea, no beta-alanine.
  • Train late or want zero caffeine: Pump Non-Stim or Essential Performance.
  • Already a heavy stim user: Essential Charged at 350mg, but only if you know you handle it.
  • Sipping through long sessions: Raw EAA, with all nine essential amino acids.

The pre-workouts

Most of the Raw pre-workouts share a citrulline pump base. The differences come down to caffeine, beta-alanine and a few focus ingredients. Pick by how much stim you want, not by flavour.

Essential Pre-Workout

This is the straightforward pick and the one we would hand to most people. It pairs citrulline and beta-alanine with a moderate 200mg of caffeine, plus Himalayan pink salt for electrolytes and taurine. Raw Essential Cotton Candy is the sweet option, and Essential in Sour AF is the one for sour-lolly fans.

It gives you reliable energy and focus without an aggressive stim spike. Expect the beta-alanine tingle, which is harmless and fades with regular use.

Essential Charged

Charged is the stepped-up sibling. It keeps the same citrulline and beta-alanine base but lifts caffeine to 350mg, then adds Dynamine, theobromine and Alpha-GPC for focus. Essential Charged Icy Lemon Slush runs 25 serves a tub.

Be honest with yourself here. 350mg is a lot for one scoop, and it leaves little room for coffee on the same day. If you are new to pre-workout, start with Essential instead, or take half a scoop of Charged to see how you go.

Essential Performance

The name is confusing, so read this bit. Essential Performance Strawberry Kiwi is a stimulant-free training formula, not a caffeinated pre-workout. It is built around citrulline, creatine, beta-alanine, betaine and tyrosine.

That makes it a smart pick for evening training, or for stacking with a separate stim pre when you want to control the caffeine yourself. For the full formula logic, see the Essential Performance breakdown.

Essential Tingle-Free

Some people cannot stand the pins-and-needles feeling from beta-alanine. Essential Tingle-Free Pink Lemonade is the answer. It is the Essential idea rebuilt without beta-alanine.

Each scoop has 200mg of natural caffeine, 4g of citrulline, and Alpha-GPC plus tyrosine for focus. The lighter 10.5g scoop also keeps it easy on the stomach. If other pre-workouts have felt uncomfortable rather than motivating, try this one.

Pump Non-Stim

Raw Pump Non-Stim has no caffeine at all. It leans on Nitrosigine and agmatine for blood flow, an electrolyte blend from Himalayan pink salt for hydration, and lion's mane for focus. The label gives you 40 single scoops or 20 double scoops.

Run it on its own for a late session, or stack it on top of a stim pre for a bigger pump. If you are comparing caffeine-free options across brands, our list of stim-free pump pre-workouts is worth a read.

Recovery and aminos: Raw EAA

Raw EAA Strawberry Lemonade gives you all nine essential amino acids in one scoop, led by 3g of leucine. A BCAA only covers three aminos, so an EAA is the more complete choice if you like to sip something during training.

Who needs it? If you already hit your protein target through food and shakes, an EAA is a nice extra rather than a must. It earns its spot for people who train fasted, do long sessions, or struggle to eat enough protein. You can compare it with other EAA supplements we carry.

Raw Test: the honest version

Raw Test is a capsule that combines KSM-66 ashwagandha, Bryonia laciniosa, fenugreek and rosemary, with DIM and boron also in the formula. The aim is to support healthy hormone levels and help hard-training men get more from their training.

Here is our honest take. It is a sensible, fully disclosed blend, but no capsule replaces sleep, enough food and consistent training. Think of it as support for a good routine, not a shortcut. We do not promise a testosterone number, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

FAQ

Which Raw Nutrition pre-workout should I start with? Most people should start with Essential Pre-Workout. It has a moderate 200mg of caffeine on a citrulline and beta-alanine base, so it gives you real energy without a big stim spike. Move up to Essential Charged only if you already handle strong pre-workouts well.

What is the difference between Raw Essential and Essential Charged? They share the same citrulline and beta-alanine pump base. Charged nearly doubles the caffeine to 350mg and adds Dynamine, theobromine and Alpha-GPC, so it is the higher-intensity option for experienced users.

Is Raw Essential Performance a stimulant pre-workout? No. Despite the name, Essential Performance is a stimulant-free training formula with citrulline, creatine, beta-alanine, betaine and tyrosine. You can use it on its own for evening sessions or stack it with a separate stim pre.

Does Raw Test boost testosterone? We would not promise that. Raw Test combines ingredients like KSM-66 ashwagandha, Bryonia laciniosa, fenugreek and rosemary that are used to support healthy hormone levels in training men. Results vary from person to person, and it works best on top of solid sleep, food and training.

How is Raw Nutrition related to CBUM? Chris Bumstead is closely tied to Raw Nutrition and co-formulated the Essential line. The CBUM-branded products sit alongside the core Raw range, which is why you will see both names when you shop the brand.
